Oyster Point to Redwood City

Sunday August 12 is the third and final race in the 2007 WaveChaser Downwind Series. The courses and start times are designed to take advantage of the summer afternoon wind and waves in San Francisco Bay. We've had great downwind conditions (and attendance) for the first two Series races, and we expect the same for the third race. With a slight outgoing tide during the race, we may have slightly larger/steeper waves. Unlike the WaveChaser winter series where we offer multiple race courses that cater to every paddler ability from novice to expert, the summer series only has rough water courses.

Course Info

We'll have two courses to choose from:

  1. Oyster Point to Redwood City (long course...approximately 17.5 miles) and
  2. Coyote Point to Redwood City (short course...approximately 13 miles).
  3. The starting time for both races is 3pm.

Registration is available only at BIAC

  1. Race registration is only at BIAC from 12:30pm to 1:30pm.

The Redwood City finish location will be at the newly renovated Bair Island Aquatic Center (BIAC). The entry fee for all the races includes the post race party with food and beverages.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Something new for race #3 is the implementation of qualifications times as a requirement for entry in the long (Oyster Point) course. To qualify for entry in the long course, one must have finished within 33% of the winning men's surfski time in one of the previous two 2007 WaveChaser Downwind Series races. This equates to faster than 1:45 at the June 10th Coyote Point race or faster than 1:34 at the July 8th Crissy Field race. If a paddler didn't enter either of these two races, he or she may request permission to enter the long (Oyster Point) course by sending an e-mail to DFJensen@aol.com on or before August 9. Include a resume with previous race experience.

The qualification times are being implemented for safety reasons. We believe that this will allow our safety boats to more easily keep track of the paddlers.
