Fort Baker (Championship)

This year's WaveChaser Championships will again be at the historic Fort Baker in Sausalito (adjacent to the north tower of the Golden Gate Bridge). This race location offers something for everyone.

Our long course race usually offers up the most challenging conditions of our season. The long course heads out under the Golden Gate Bridge then out past Point Bonita into the open ocean. We'll take a right run at the buoy 3/4 mile off of Point Bonita and head north to the first red marker before retracing our steps on the return route. With the US Surfski Championships (www.ussurfski.com) utilizing most of the course, the rough water in the "Potato Patch" off of Point Bonita has become known worldwide.

The short course will head away from the Golden Gate toward Angle Island. Expect moderate conditions for this race.

The novice course will be two laps withing the protected waters of Horseshoe Cove.

Keep in mind that the race courses can be modified due to the conditions of the day.

  • 9:00 novice course (2 miles)
  • 10:00 short course (6 miles)
  • 11:30 pm long course (10 miles)
