Fort Baker
February 16-17 Race Details

February 16-17 is our annual double header weekend with races on both Saturday and Sunday. Our doubleheader weekend always offers the most competitive races of the Series. New this year is the use of Fort Baker (under the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge) as the start finish location for both days of racing. We will be utilizing the variety of course options available from this location.

Both days will feature our standard three race format: a 2-mile novice course (9 am start time), a 6-mile short course (10 am start time), and a 10-mile long course (11:30 am start time). In general, the novice races will be in flat conditions, the short course races will be in moderate conditions, and the long course races will be in moderate to rough conditions.

The Sunday long course (out the Golden Gate and up the coast) will be especially challenging. In addition to typical rough conditions encountered in the "Potato Patch" off of Point Bonita, we have the extra challenge of a very strong outgoing tide. Only strong paddlers with rough water experience should enter the Sunday long course.

Lunch will be served and awards will be handed out after each day's races. As has been customary for our doubleheader weekend, we'll have overall awards for the best combined long course times for the two days of races. The overall awards will be given out to the fastest male and female surfski, the fastest male and female OC1, and the fastest male and female "waterman". The waterman award is for racers who paddle surfski one day and OC1 one day.

Like all WaveChaser races, all paddlers are required to use leashes that tether the boat to the paddler. Surfski paddlers have the option of using a paddle leash instead (paddle tethered to boat). All paddlers are required to WEAR personal floatation devices (PFD's).
